Phone AI Edits and the AI Label: Magic Eraser, Galaxy AI

Removed a photobomber with Magic Eraser or Galaxy AI, and now the post says AI info? Your phone wrote a marker into the edited copy. Check it below and save a clean version.

AI info label detector and remover

Use this to fix wrongly labeled real photos and to clean private metadata. Content that was actually AI-generated should still be disclosed, as Meta's policy requires.

The short answer

Google Photos AI edits write IPTC metadata ("Edited with Google AI", source type "Edited using Generative AI"), and newer Pixel and Galaxy phones add C2PA Content Credentials to AI-edited images. Instagram, Facebook, Threads, TikTok and Pinterest read these markers. Clean the edited copy before you post it.

Google Photos and Pixel

In October 2024, Google announced that photos edited with Magic Editor, Magic Eraser and Zoom Enhance carry IPTC metadata marking a generative edit, and started showing it in the photo details. Non-generative composites like Best Take and Add Me get a separate IPTC marker.

Pixel 10 phones go further and sign photos with C2PA in the camera and in Google Photos. A camera capture is labeled as such and is not an AI claim. After a generative edit, the manifest records the AI step.

Samsung Galaxy AI

Galaxy AI generative edits (moving or erasing objects and filling the background) add a small visible watermark and, on recent models, Content Credentials. The tool removes the metadata. It does not remove a visible watermark, which is part of the pixels.

Which edits are safe

Can add an AI marker

  • Magic Editor and Magic Eraser
  • Zoom Enhance and Pro Res Zoom
  • Galaxy AI generative edit
  • AI sky and background replacement

Usually fine

  • Crop, rotate and straighten
  • Brightness, contrast and color
  • Built-in filters
  • Portrait blur adjustments

How to post without a wrong label

  1. Export or share the edited photo to your files, then open it in the tool above.
  2. Check the report. "Edited with Google AI", a generative source type or a C2PA manifest means the label is likely.
  3. Press Clean & download and post the clean copy.

An erased bin or a stranger in the background is a minor edit. A generated person, place or event is not; disclose that.

Phone AI edits and the AI label: FAQ

Does Magic Eraser add an AI label on Instagram?

It can. Google says photos edited with Magic Editor, Magic Eraser and Zoom Enhance carry IPTC metadata that marks a generative AI edit, and Meta reads that metadata to apply the "AI info" label.

What does "Edited with Google AI" mean in my photo details?

It is the IPTC Credit that Google Photos writes after a generative edit, together with a digital source type of "Edited using Generative AI". Both are visible to apps that read metadata, including Instagram, Facebook, Threads and Pinterest.

Does the Pixel 10 add Content Credentials to every photo?

Pixel 10 signs camera photos with C2PA Content Credentials. A plain capture says it came from a camera, which is not an AI claim. After an AI edit in Google Photos, the manifest records the edit, and that can trigger AI labels.

Do Samsung Galaxy AI edits trigger the label?

Recent Galaxy phones add Content Credentials to images edited with Galaxy AI generative features, and generative edits also add a small visible watermark. The metadata can trigger labels; check the edited copy with the tool.

Is the original photo affected?

No. The marker is written to the edited copy. If you still have the unedited original, posting that avoids the label entirely.

Can I clean HEIC photos from an iPhone or Android?

Yes. HEIC and AVIF are supported, and the image data is not re-encoded.
