MP4, MOV and M4V, no re-encoding

Remove AI Metadata From Videos Without Re-Encoding

Most metadata removers only take images or re-encode your video. This one edits the MP4 or MOV container directly, removes the C2PA and AI tags, and keeps every frame identical. Nothing is uploaded.

AI info label detector and remover

Use this to fix wrongly labeled real photos and to clean private metadata. Content that was actually AI-generated should still be disclosed, as Meta's policy requires.

The short answer

AI metadata in a video lives in container boxes: a C2PA uuid box, an XMP uuid box or XMP_ atom, and text atoms that name an AI tool. Replace those boxes with empty free boxes of the same size and the AI metadata is gone while the video stays byte-for-byte the same.

Where AI metadata hides in MP4 and MOV

  • C2PA manifest: a top-level uuid box with the C2PA identifier, written by Adobe Premiere, AI video tools and some phones.
  • XMP: a uuid box or an XMP_ atom inside moov/udta, often with an IPTC DigitalSourceType.
  • Metadata atoms: encoder, comment and description tags that can name the AI tool.

Why re-encoding is the wrong fix

Running a video through an editor or converter drops metadata, but it also recompresses every frame. You lose quality, the export takes time, and the new app can write fresh credentials of its own.

What this tool does instead

An MP4's sample tables point to exact byte positions. Deleting a box would shift everything after it and break playback. The tool rewrites the box type to free and zeroes its contents, so nothing moves. Our test suite checks that the stripped file decodes and that every video frame matches the original.

Platforms that read video metadata

  • Instagram and Facebook Reels: C2PA and IPTC, shown as "AI info". See the Instagram guide.
  • TikTok: C2PA, shown as "AI-generated". See the TikTok guide.
  • YouTube: can show "Captured with a camera" for C2PA-signed camera footage and asks creators to disclose altered or synthetic content.

Clean the final export. Re-exporting after cleaning can write the metadata back. And disclose AI video that looks real.

Video AI metadata: FAQ

How do I remove AI metadata from a video?

Drop the MP4 or MOV into the tool on this page and press Clean & download. It removes C2PA uuid boxes, XMP uuid boxes and AI tool names in the metadata atoms, without re-encoding the video.

Will the video lose quality?

No. Video and audio samples are not touched. The removed boxes are replaced with empty boxes of the same size, so the file is the same length and every frame is identical.

Which video formats are supported?

MP4, MOV and M4V, which covers exports from phones, Premiere, CapCut, DaVinci Resolve and most AI video generators.

Can ffmpeg remove C2PA from a video?

Re-muxing with ffmpeg and -map_metadata -1 usually drops the C2PA box, but it rewrites the whole file and can drop rotation, chapters or other tags you want to keep. This tool removes only the AI and provenance boxes and leaves the rest.

Is there a file size limit?

There is no hard limit, but the file is read into memory. Files over 500 MB may be slow or crash on a phone; a desktop browser handles large files better.

Does it remove invisible video watermarks?

No. Watermarks such as SynthID or Meta Video Seal are in the frames, and the tool never changes frames.
