Remove AI Info From a Post After Posting

The label is already on your post. Whether you can turn it off depends on who added it. Here is what works, plus the tool to clean the original file so the re-post comes out label-free.

AI info label detector and remover

Use this to fix wrongly labeled real photos and to clean private metadata. Content that was actually AI-generated should still be disclosed, as Meta's policy requires.

The short answer

If you turned on the AI label yourself, edit the post and switch it off. If Instagram added it from the file's metadata, you cannot remove it from that post. Clean the original file, archive the old post and upload the clean copy as a new post.

First, find out who added the label

You added it

Instagram has an AI label toggle in the advanced settings when you post. If you switched it on, open the post, tap the three dots, choose Edit and look for the AI label option. Turn it off and save. Meta changes these menus often, so the wording can differ in your app.

Meta added it

If you never touched the toggle, Meta added the label after reading the file or running its own checks. There is no switch for that. Drop the original file into the tool above: if it shows an AI marker, metadata was the cause and a clean re-post will usually fix it.

Re-posting without losing everything

  • Archive instead of delete. Archived posts keep their likes and comments and can be restored.
  • Use the original file. Downloading your own post from Instagram gives you a recompressed copy. Start from the camera or editor export.
  • Clean the final export. Re-exporting from Lightroom or CapCut after cleaning can write the markers back.
  • Repost at a good time. A new post gets a fresh shot at reach, so treat it like a new upload.

When to report the label instead

If re-posting is not an option, for example because a post has a lot of engagement or is part of a paid campaign, report the label through Instagram's Help menu. Explain that the photo was captured with a camera and only lightly edited, and keep the original file ready. There is no guaranteed outcome.

Do not use a re-post to hide a label from content that really is AI-generated. Meta's policy requires disclosure for realistic AI content, and accounts that repeatedly hide it can be penalized.

AI info after posting: FAQ

Can I remove AI info from an Instagram post after posting?

Only if you added the label yourself, through the post's edit options when Instagram shows them. A label Meta added from the file's metadata stays on that post. To get rid of it, re-post a cleaned copy or report the label as wrong.

Why can't I find the AI info toggle when I edit the post?

The toggle only appears for labels you turned on. If Meta added the label automatically, there is no switch to turn off. Menus also change between app versions and regions.

Will I lose likes and comments if I re-post?

Yes. A new post starts from zero. Many people archive the labeled post instead of deleting it, so they can restore it later if needed.

Does editing the caption remove the label?

No. Editing the caption, tags or location does not change the label, because the label is tied to the media file that was uploaded.

How do I report a wrong AI info label?

In the Instagram app, go to your profile menu, then Help, then Report a problem, and describe the post. Meta does not promise a review outcome or a time frame.

Does this work for Reels and carousels?

Yes. Clean every file in the carousel or the final Reel export before re-posting. One flagged image in a carousel is enough for the label.
