The short answer
"Made with AI" was Instagram's original AI label. In July 2024 Meta renamed it "AI info". Both are triggered by AI markers inside the file, mainly C2PA Content Credentials and the IPTC DigitalSourceType field. Remove those markers from a real photo and the new upload is usually not labeled.
From "Made with AI" to "AI info": what changed
- February 2024: Meta announces it will label AI images on Facebook, Instagram and Threads using C2PA and IPTC signals.
- May 2024: the "Made with AI" tag starts appearing, including on real photos edited with tools like Photoshop.
- July 2024: after complaints from photographers, Meta renames it "AI info".
- September 2024: posts that were only edited with AI show the label in the menu instead of on the post.
The name and placement changed. The trigger did not. A file that would have said "Made with AI" in 2024 still gets "AI info" today.
How to remove it
New posts
Clean the file with the tool above before uploading. It deletes the C2PA manifest, the IPTC AI fields and AI tool names, without re-encoding.
Posts that already have it
The label stays on a live post. Re-post a clean copy, or switch off the toggle if you added it yourself. Step-by-step in removing AI info after posting.
Photoshop users
Photoshop was the most common source of the old Made with AI tag. Read the Generative Fill and Instagram guide for export settings that help.
Use it on the right photos
The tool is for real photos that got a wrong tag, and for stripping private metadata. If an image was actually generated with AI and looks realistic, keep the label on.
Made with AI label: FAQ
Does Instagram still use the "Made with AI" label?
No. Meta renamed "Made with AI" to "AI info" in July 2024 after photographers complained that lightly edited real photos were being tagged. The signals behind it did not change, so the same files still get labeled.
How do I remove the Made with AI label from a photo?
Drop the photo into the tool on this page. If it finds C2PA or IPTC AI markers, press Clean & download and post the clean copy as a new post. For a post that is already live, see the guide on removing AI info after posting.
Is "Made with AI" the same as "AI info"?
Yes, it is the same label system with a new name. AI-edited posts now show the label in the post menu, while content Meta treats as fully AI-generated shows it more visibly.
Why did "Made with AI" appear on a photo I only retouched?
Retouching tools that use generative AI write a marker that covers the whole file. The label cannot tell a removed blemish from a fully generated image, which is the reason Meta changed the wording.
Does a screenshot get rid of the Made with AI tag?
A screenshot drops the metadata, but it also lowers quality, changes the size and can still be caught by pixel watermarks. Cleaning the original keeps full quality and removes the same metadata.
