The short answer
Facebook, Instagram and Threads share one Meta labeling system. It reads C2PA Content Credentials and IPTC AI fields in the uploaded file. Remove those markers from a real photo, and the new post on any of the three apps is usually not labeled.
On Facebook the label appears as "AI info" on the post or in its menu. If you turned on the AI label while posting, edit the post and switch it off. If Facebook added it, check the original file with the tool above. An AI marker in the report means a clean re-post should fix it.
Pages and ads
Business Pages get the same label. Ads have their own AI disclosure rules for political and social issue ads, which you must follow regardless of metadata.
Threads
Threads shows "AI info" on images and videos the same way. Because many people share Instagram posts to Threads, one flagged file often gets labeled twice. Clean it once and both are fixed for new posts.
One-file checklist for all three apps
- Start from the original export, not a downloaded copy.
- Run it through the checker and clean it if it shows an AI tag.
- Leave the AI label toggle off only if no generative edit shaped the image.
- Cross-post the same clean file to Instagram, Facebook and Threads.
Realistic AI-generated content still needs a label on every Meta app. Use this fix only for real photos and minor edits.

Facebook and Threads AI info: FAQ
How do I remove AI info on Facebook?
Facebook uses the same Meta system as Instagram. Check the photo or video with the tool on this page, clean it if it carries C2PA or IPTC AI markers, and post the clean copy. For a post that is already live, edit it to turn off a label you added, or re-post.
Why does Threads show AI info on my post?
Threads reads the same file signals as Instagram. If the image was edited with a generative tool, its metadata can trigger the label. Cross-posting from Instagram carries the same file, so both posts get labeled.
If I clean a file for Instagram, is it clean for Facebook too?
Yes. All three apps read the same C2PA and IPTC fields, so a file with no AI markers is clean for all of them as far as metadata goes.
Does sharing an Instagram post to Facebook copy the label?
Yes. Auto-sharing uses the same upload, so the label follows. Fix the file first, then post and share.
Does it work for Facebook Reels and videos?
Yes. MP4 and MOV files are cleaned without re-encoding, so Reels keep their quality.
